Production
This remake was filmed in Goa,
India and produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
The film has been re-written by
the original director, Sai Paranjpye. Regarding the film Ali Zafar says,
"It’s a different film from Sai’s…young, a little over-the-top, adapted to
modern times and coloured by David’s sensibilities"
Casting
Ali Zafar has gained popularity
in Bollywood through his well received roles in past films, and is excited to
be playing Farooq Shaikh's role in this remake. He says, "I’m a huge fan
of Farooq Bhai. He’s in a league of his own as an actor and I don’t think I’ll
come anywhere close.” Sai Paranjpye, who rewrote the film recognized a
similarity between Zafar and Shaikh, "Both Shaikh and Zafar are
aristocratic and cultured. And there's a certain masoomiyat (innocence) about
them. When my co-writer Renuka and I began to re-write Chashme baddoor for
contemporary times, we immediately thought of Ali in Farooq's role."
Telugu & Tamil actor,
Siddharth will be stepping into Ravi Baswani's role. Director, David Dhawan
explains that it was difficult to cast this role because, "Ravi Baswani is
the only member of the cast who is no more and I miss him. Ravi and I were
roommates when we were both starting out in our careers. I had to put Ravi in
safe hands. I had to cast someone who I knew would do justice to his
part."
Divyendu Sharma will be
playing Rakesh Bedi's role in the remake, a lucky break for this actor who is
best known for his role as "Liquid" in the sleeper hit Pyaar Ka
Punchnama. Regarding his new role Divenydu says, "I am super excited to be
part of such an iconic film and play Rakesh Bedi's character who has been
favorite of entire nation for his amazing comic timing, I am also meeting him
to get a much deeper take of his character in the film. Will try to justify it
in a best possible way." and "I am a big fan of Sai Paranjpye's films
and I've seen her Chashme baddoor a number of times. This is just the break I
wanted after Pyaar Ka Punchnama." Regarding Divyendu's casting, David
Dhawan says, "I wanted someone spontaneous, funny and intelligent to play
Rakesh Bedi’s part. You see, with Rishi Kapoor and Anupam Kher in the cast and
with Ali and Siddharth playing the two heroes, the third actor has to sparkle
on screen. I saw that spark in Divyendu. Very bright actor. I am having a ball
directing him and the rest."
Release
Chashme Baddoor being
directed by David Dhawan and backed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures was initially
planned for a December 2012 release but it was shifted to February 2013. However,
the film’s release was further postponed to April 19. Now the producers have
decided to release the film on April 5.
